Newsflash

Please say a prayer of thanks for such a fine pitch for our use. We're grateful to the groundskeepers and the Athletic Department for their hard work to prepare it for our use! Practice will now move to the Lower Field until further notice.

Season opener: 11-1

CAL Revs Up in the Locker Room Pre-GameGranted, the "1" should never have happened. But that's why we practice. That notwithstanding, over all, our guys did awesome tonight in their season opener against the Fern Creek Tigers. In fact -- players and fans alike were outstanding! It was great seeing such a good crowd for our official season opener. Please realize -- this was not a scrimmage. This was for real.

Care for your cleats...
Zach's cleats will need major work :-)Was our last practice a bit on the damp side? If so, your cleats will likely need some special care. It's one of my pet-peeves actually. After a practice like the one on Friday, it's likely your cleats were pretty damp... maybe even *wet*. You come home, throw your bag in the corner of the garage, then over the weekend, your garage heats up. You grab your bag and head for practice, opening it up field-side in front of all of us. Thanks a lot! You just raised the pollution level 10 levels! The *smell* of those soured cleats will be enough to gag us all! :-) What's more, you find that they're stiff, dry, and lifeless. :-( How do you avoid all that? On the one hand, I wanted to say, "Hey... this is what we get for choosing an outdoor sport. Let's do this!" On the other hand, I respect lightning ... and fields *are* hard to repair after a single game in these conditions . . . and fans aren't that excited about sitting out in a storm -- or even a drizzle -- for 3 hours. ...
