On Aug. 18th, CAL's Men's varsity soccer went head to head (almost literally) against a very physical John Hardin squad -- on their field, on their terms. From where we were sitting, it seemed that they played an extremely physical game. In fact, by the time 60 minutes had ticked by, 3 additional players from our side were injured enough to have to sit out the rest of the game. That's 3 in addition to the 2 who were already sidelined by earlier injuries. (All 5 had started for us in recent games -- so literally half our starters were out.) In spite of being "the walking wounded," we managed to hold off most of their quick counter-attacks and escape with only a 2-0 loss. We knew that soccer was a contact sport. We just don't like the reckless contacts.
